Background and Experience
A North Shore native, Betsy graduated from Deerfield High School and attended Indiana University, where she received a BS in Elementary Education (K-9th grade) and Special Education (pre-K through age 21). She later earned an English as a Second Language certificate from Loyola University. Betsy spent the majority of her classroom teaching experience at North Shore School District 112 in Highland Park, in the resource and general education settings. She left the school setting in 2015 to be home with her young children.
Betsy’s journey to Academic Coaching began back in 2007, when she began offering private tutoring sessions to elementary and middle school students in Chicago (specializing in test prep for the CPS selective enrollment process) and throughout the North Shore. Over time, she broadened her services to include high school and college students, and identified a strong need for support in organization, planning, test preparation, and Executive Function (EF) skills. Betsy delved into how she could give students–especially those diagnosed with an anxiety disorder or ADHD– access to the Executive Function strategies needed to succeed in school and beyond.
Through personalized, one-on-one sessions and collaboration with student support teams, Betsy provides structured, engaging, and highly individualized coaching. Her upbeat approach fosters trust, and students see her as both a mentor and advocate. Strategies are taught in real time and align with students’ immediate academic needs, ensuring consistent practice and reinforcement. By modeling techniques and providing tailored support, Betsy helps students build confidence, strengthen EF skills, and develop the tools they need for lifelong success.
