“Academic Coaching” Session Outline


Check In

Students report on successes and struggles over the last week, and expectations for the session.

Update +Plan

As we review the GRADEBOOK, EMAILS from teachers, and CLASS AGENDAS, students update their planner with with tasks and important dates, and email teachers as needed. This process is modeled, then prompted, and becomes student-led. 

Skill Build

Most time is spent working collaboratively on predetermined tasks, including: understanding assignment instructions + expectations and beginning work, AND preparing for tests by compiling materials, creating resources, and detailing study plans.

Sessions end by reviewing the expectations/plans for the week. Following the session, I follow up with parents and teachers as-needed to support next steps.

8th Grade Student

45 minute session

0:00-0:05 Review previous week + backpack clean out

0:05-0:10 Go through grade book check for missing/late assignments

0:10-0:15 Look at agendas for each class record upcoming assignments + tests

0:15-0:40 Test prep define concepts, print/organize documents, plan + begin study activities

0:40-0:45 Sum up review schedule for the week


High School Senior

60 minute session

0:00-0:05 Review previous week

0:05-0:10 Go through grade book check for missing/late assignments, email questions to teachers

0:10-0:15 Look at agendas for each class record upcoming assignments + tests

0:15-0:50 English essay review rubric, edit thesis, expand body paragraphs

0:50-0:55 Plan evening work look at assignments + time allotments to plan schedule

0:55-0:60 Sum up review schedule for the week


College Freshman

60 minute session, Zoom

0:00-0:05 Review previous week what went well? what will you try this week?

0:05-0:10 Weekly activities record sorority events, volunteer hours, block out times in planner

0:10-0:20 Go through agendas for each class record assignment due dates + tests

0:20-0:30 Daily plan record when assignments will be completed/time allotment

0:30-0:55 Civics project screen share to view assignment, understand expectations, make a plan

0:55-0:60 Sum up review schedule for the week, confirm next appointment time
